Virtual and Asynchronous Programs
To accommodate the restrictions of in-person events, Stempower will offer several options to engage mentors with local community groups to complete fun STEM activities (and badge requirements for Girl Scouts) and to provide positive role models. Please read the descriptions below. If you are interested in any of the programs, please complete the following Program Application Form.
1. Virtual One-on-One Mentoring
This program matches one child to one Stempower mentor and is recommended for older children (4th grade and up). Based on your individual schedule, your child and a Stempower mentor will meet regularly throughout the year to share fun STEM experiences and develop a strong mentor-mentee bond. If your child is a Girl Scout, we will also fulfill badge requirements during these meetings.
2. Virtual Group Meeting STEM Activities
If your group has decided to host virtual meetings, this is your program! Stempower will connect your group with inspiring student mentors once a month for a total of four-five meetings through leading fun STEM activities. Your mentoring dates, between September and April, will be coordinated individually upon acceptance and are typically scheduled during your regular meeting times.
3. STEM Pals
We provide the paper, postage, envelope, and a college pal. Your kiddo is the other pal! For practice writing letters, join out STEM Pals program. We handle the logistics, and a Stempower mentor will provide age-appropriate content that focuses on STEM, hobbies, and simple but fun activities.
If you are interested in any of these activities, please contact Andrea at copela13@purdue.edu with any questions. We look forward to it!
